On December 7, 1997, the 56th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the local Tyndall American Legion and VFW posts conceived the idea of constructing a veterans memorial. After a few years of planning and fundraising, the memorial was completed in 2001. Tyndall Veterans Memorial Park honors nearly 1,200 local veterans on its granite monuments.
