DownloadMarket on Main follows guidelines set forth in the SDSU Extension publication Farmers Market Resource Manual and recommendations by the South Dakota Specialty Producers Association.
Any grower producer who puts at least 50% of the time and money into their product produced on their property, owned or leased or shared. Examples include produce, herbs, flowers, livestock, poultry, pets, baked goods, hand crafted items, processed items produced at home sold directly by the producer, processed items produced in a licensed commercial or shared kitchen properly labeled per state and federal regulations, intangible items like original music or art, and personal services. Market on Main exists to serve and encourage these producers.
Market on Main encourages youth grower/producers, especially those involved with 4-H and similar organizations. Latitude is extended to youth market participants.
Market on Main does not allow 'flippers' or resellers. Market on Main is not a flea market, nor a place to sell second hand items, nor a forum for independent agents to demonstrate their goods or services they represent. Political action activities are discouraged; but Market on Main does recognize freedom of speech.
Preference is given to growers and producers in Bon Homme and adjacent counties; Charles Mix, Douglas, Hutchinson, Yankton, and Knox, and including colonies. Native American producers, especially Yankton, Ponca and Santee tribal members. Others who meet the criteria are welcome as well.
Grower/producers are expected to use 'best practices' and meet generally accepted standards in growing and producing their products.
Evidence of grower/producer liability insurance is expected. Farm or personal liability coverage is sufficient, at the limits of those individual policies.
Market on Main uses Market Rules stated and implied in the SDSU Example Farmers Market Lease Agreement as explained in Chapter Four. Market on Main can modify those rules as circumstances warrant.
This year, 2023, Market on Main has no 'stall fee' or 'membership' charges. Tyndall Development, the financial backer of Market on Main' intends to stimulate local production and innovation. We expect our vendor stalls to be 12' x 18' however Market on Main reserves the option to modify stall size in future markets, based on vendor needs. Stall assignment will be based on seniority or continuous time participating in markets.
Contact a member of the planning committee below to reserve your stall.
